Edward Bernard “Ed” Cassidy
October 12, 1961 – April 16, 2019
Co-Founder of Total HVAC Inc.

It is with heartfelt sadness we announce the passing of Ed at the Ruddy-Shenkman Hospice, after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 57. An intelligent, kind and ambitious man, Ed worked hard to get what he wanted in life, and his greatest passion was his family. As the beloved husband to the love of his wife, Lynda for 32 years and loving father of Megan (Daniel) and Tyler.

He was the beloved son of Bernard Edward and the late Marjorie Cassidy. Dear brother of Susan Duncan, and Steve Cassidy (Buffey). He will also be greatly missed by his beloved mother-in-law Dorothy Stratton (the late Craig Stratton), as well as by his sister-in-law Carla Lamers (Paul) and brother-in-law Brian Stratton (Melanie). He was the loving uncle to Samantha (Dave), Gerald, Emily, Greg, Brad, Nicole, Julia, and Ashley. Ed was very much a family man, and his passing leaves a huge void in their lives.

They are, however, all so grateful that Ed was a part of so many happy family memories, especially Megan’s recent marriage to Daniel. Ed also shared much joy with his extended family (he was particularly fond of his mother-in-law’s pies, ice cream and chocolate!) and his large circle of friends. In addition to family and friends, Ed had many other passions in life. He co-founded his own company Total HVAC Inc, with Adam Beales in 1996. He loved his company and his employees and put his heart and soul into his work.

He did, however, find time for leisure and especially loved sports. From a young age, he was an avid hockey player, playing on the Ryerson Rams in his university years, and continued to play in recreational leagues up until a few years ago at which time he occupied his time with another passion – Golf. He was a proud member of the Ottawa Hunt Club, and also loved playing golf at Sandpiper Golf Club in Florida, where he won the Club Championship in 2017 and 2018. Nothing made him happier than a round of golf with his favourite golf partner, his son Tyler. His other interests included cars, which he had loved since his youth, and gardening - The grass was always green and mowed at Ed’s house. Ed also loved all forms of travel, whether a trip down to his cottage, or a cruise with family and friends, especially, Marc and Michelle. He spent his winters in his Florida home, where he was also surrounded by a loving Florida “family”.

A special thank you to Doctors Nicholas, Moulton, Chang, Lal and Bright, nurses, staff and volunteers for all of their kindness, care and compassion shown to Ed and his family.

Friends may call at Capital Funeral Home and Cemetery, 3700 Prince of Wales Drive, Nepean on Friday, April 19 from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:30 – 8:30 pm. A Service Celebrating Ed’s life will be held in the Chapel on Saturday, April 20 at 11:00 a.m., followed by a reception.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to Ancoura (www.ancoura.ca) would be greatly appreciated by the family. Ancoura is a small local charity that provides a nurturing and fulfilling environment for adults living with a mental illness, through stable, affordable housing and a supportive community. Ed and Lynda will be forever grateful for the help it has provided for their son.
